The current Visitor's Center at the Billy the Kid gravesite at historic Fort Sumner, New Mexico is getting a major upgrade! The Fort Sumner Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the City of Fort Sumner has begun the design phase for the new Fort Sumner Heritage Center & Billy the Kid Gravesite. The new Heritage Center will feature an expansive and immersive new interpretive experience for visitors to historic Fort Sumner and the gravesite of famed Old West outlaw Billy the Kid.
Financial support from the community of history lovers and Billy the Kid fans from across the globe is crucial for the full development of the planned exhibit. We welcome donations from individuals and organizations to help support the museum design and construction, as well as future educational programs and research initiatives planned for the Heritage Center.
To date, the Fort Sumner Chamber of Commerce has pledged $22,000 for the conceptual design of the interpretive exhibit and research effort, but the goal is to raise at least $100,000 for the full buildout of the new Heritage Center.
